Biographical History
Boston Female Asylum incorporated 1803; ca. 1910 name changed to Boston Society for the Care of Girls.
The Boston Female Asylum was founded as an orphanage in 1800 to care for orphaned and destitute girls in Boston. By the end of the century it had become a counseling and placement agency, evident in the change of its name to the Boston Society for the Care of Girls. The Society merged with the Boston Children's Aid Society in 1923 to form the Children's Aid Association, later to become the Boston Children's Services Association.
