Biographical History

The Greenbrier Company was one of two land companies formed in order to accumulate large tracts of land exceeding the limits specified in the general law of 1705 passed by the colonial legislature. The Company, formed by John Robinson, and others was granted leave to take up 100,000 acres of land, by orders of Council, on October 29, 1751. The company made surveys until the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.
