Biographical History

Arthur Meehan came to Spokane in 1910. He graduated from Gonzaga University and worked in various public positions before becoming commissioner of public works in 1942. Meehan served as mayor of Spokane from 1945 to 1955. Large civic improvements initiated during his mayoral tenure included the Coliseum, the Maple Street Bridge, Ben Garnet Way, and large sewer projects.
