Biographical History
Johnnie Jones, Sr. was born in Laurel Hill, Miss., and educated at Southern University Demonstration High School and at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La. He was one of the first African-American warrant officers in the army during World War II and participated in the D-Day operations in Normandy, France. He earned a law degree from Southern University in 1953. His long legal career included several landmark civil rights cases in Louisiana.
