Rea and Adele Rea ("Dell"), lived with the Paul family in Brockton, Massachusetts, in the early 20th century. In 1917, Paul volunteered as a driver for the American Ambulance Field Service (later the American Field Service), which was transferred to the jurisdiction of the United States Army in August 1918.
