Murray Boren (born 1950) is an LDS composer and Brigham Young University School of Music faculty member.
Murray Boren earned his B.M. and M.A. in Composition from Brigham Young University in 1975 and 1977, respectively, followed by a D.M.A. in Composition from The City University of New York in 2002. From 1970 to 1980, he took the position of acting department head and Lecturer in Music at University of Nsukka College of Education in Nigeria, then returned to Utah to become professor of composition and theory at BYU from 1980 to 1984. From 1984 to 1994, he became administrator at The City University of New York and New York University before returning to teaching composition and theory at Brigham Young University once again until 2007. Boren then retired from teaching to become House Composer for Lyon & Healy West.
Glen Almon Nelson (b. 1961) is a poet and librettist in Utah.
Glen Almon Nelson has written three operas, two cantatas, and five sets of art songs with Murray Boren. His poetry and essays have been published in Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought and in Silent Notes Taken. As director of Mormon Artists Group, he has published twelve projects with nearly seventy-five Mormon artists which have been acquired by private collectors and public institutions worldwide.
