Biographical History

Dow was graduated from Harvard College in 1769. He arrived in Haverhill, N.H. in 1779, where he served as town clerk, moderator, selectman, and sealer of weights and measures. He was also the first (?) postmaster in Haverhill. In addition to his responsibilities to the town, he held a commission as brigadier general in the New Hampshire militia. Dow was also solicitor of Grafton County from 1774 to 1804 and register of probate from 1774 to 1807. He was elected to the state senate in 1784 and 1791 and served as a member of the executive council in 1785-1786. He was judge of the Court of Common Pleas from 1808 until his death in 1811.
