Biographical History
Benjamin Riter was born on 27 July 1801 in Chester County, Pa. He moved to the Nauvoo, Ill. region sometime before mob persecutions forced members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints out of that city. He participated in the mob violence against the Saints, purchased land from them at a devalued price as they were fleeing, and then took up residence in Nauvoo.
