California state legislator.

In 1958, Charles B. Garrigus II was elected to represent the Thirty-third assembly district of the California State Assembly. He served until 1966. He cochaired and then chaired the Committee on Education. He carried numerous bills affecting the California community college system, teacher certification, school curriculum, community college districts, and educational finance. In 1967, Garrigus became California's first state poet laureate.
