Charles Campbell McCall was born on March 23, 1895, in Causeyville, Mississippi. He attended the Georgia Military Academy, University of Alabama, Georgetown University and the National University, and earned degrees in patent law. McCall married Nell Curtis Cave. He began his military career in 1917 serving in the United States Regular Army, Cavalry. He continued in the Air Force Reserves and later in the Alabama National Guard.
