Biographical History

The Canadian rail and steamship SS Danube was originally chartered for a three month cruise to the Bering Sea to deliver 40 tons of supplies to Her Majesty's ships in the Sea during the Bering Sea controversy, a controversy between the United States and Great Britain over sealing rights in the sea. The Danube had five cruises from 1891 to 1898. During this period the Danube carried mail, livestock, naval stores, lumber, salmon, and passengers and searched for a missing steamer.
