Peggy Hayes, also known as Margaret Edwards, correspondent of author, (Alfred Jackson) Xavier Herbert, 1901-1984. Herbert's first published novel, Capricornia, won the Commonwealth 150th Anniversary Prize in 1938. He won the Miles Franklin Literary Award in 1976 for Poor fellow, my country (1975). Other works include: Seven emus, Soldier's women, Disturbing element, and Larger than life.
