Biographical History

Ellison Lassell Crawford was born in Castine, Maine in 1833. He sailed to California in 1852. He first settled in San Francisco and worked in a hotel as a cook. He later mined and owned a store in Spanish Diggings and Spanish Bar in El Dorado County. From 1859 to 1861, Crawford was Postmaster and Justice of the Peace of Greenwood, California. In 1880, he served as Minute Clerk of the California Constitutional Convention. He died in California in 1895.

Biography

Ellison Lassell Crawford was born in Castine, Maine, January 27, 1833. He sailed around Cape Horn to arrive in San Francisco October 20, 1852. He married Lucinda H. Hooper in 1856 and they had four children. His wife died in 1871. On September 15, 1878, he was married to Dora Jones and had three more children. From 1859 to 1861 Crawford was Postmaster and Justice of the Peace of Greenwood. He moved to Georgetown in 1863. He was Assistant Clerk of the Legislature from 1869 to 1870 and 1879 to 1880. He served as Minute Clerk of the Constitutional Convention in 1880. He was Mining Recorder of Georgetown District from 1883 to 1887 and again from 1889 until his death in 1895. He was Deputy Assessor of El Dorado County sixteen years, Notary Public for thirty years, Justice of the Peace of Georgetown from 1883 to 1889 and 1890 until his death. and was an insurance agent for 25 years. He published and printed the "Georgetown GEM" and was an active member of the Masonic Lodge.
