Served as House Majority Whip from 1975 to 1980; member of Education Committee (1969-1972), Higher Education Committee (1969-1972), Elections Committee (1971-1974), Insurance Committee (co-spokesman, 1973-1974), Rules Committee (1977-1980), Agriculture Committee (minority spokesman, 1981-1982), Revenue Committee (1981-1982), Urban Education Commission (co-chairman, 1971-1972), Bicentennial Commission (1973-1976), Illinois Economic and Fiscal Commission (1981-1982) and State Fair Advisory Board (1981-1982). Was a member of the Executive Committee of the National Conference of State Legislators. Owner of the Bloomington Tent and Awning Company, Bloomington, Illinois.
