Biographical History

England-born William Tagg married Sarah (Mackerell) in 1889.

In 1901 he bought Ocean Home Farm, part of the Alva Condit donation land claim in the Gearhart area of Clatsop County, which he renamed "The Downs." The Taggs ran a dairy farm and also took in summer boarders, generally from Portland. In 1916 William and Sarah retired to a small house on the property, and their daughter, Verna (Tagg) Bates, and her husband took over the business. Mrs. Bates operated the farm until 1978, when it was sold.

From the description of William Tagg letter to his sister [manuscript], 1886 August 29. (Oregon Historical Society Research Library). WorldCat record id: 758488668
