Storekeeper of Concord, Mass., dealing in dry goods, liquor, spices, some groceries, skins, almanacs, cutlery, tools, gloves, shoes, etc. Son and grandson of Ephraim Jones; father of tavern keeper Ephraim Jones and grandfather of his son Ephraim. Married Mary Hayward in 1728. Served as Town Clerk in Concord, as Selectman, and as Representative in the Massachusetts Legislature. This account book is described in detail by Thoreau in his journal entry for Jan. 27, 1854. Thoreau states that the volume had come from the attic of the home of Deacon Reuben Brown (son of Reuben Brown the saddler).
