Esta Nesbitt (1918-1975) began her career in fashion and magazine art. In 1960, she illustrated The Town Across the Water with sugar-lift aquatints. Her subsequent book illustration was known for experimentation to develop unique techniques to produce prints that met Nesbitt's exacting standards of text interpretation.

Esta Nesbitt (1918-1975) was a native New Yorker. She attended Traphagen School, Columbia University, and the China Institute. Later, she taught at Parson's School of Design. She began her career creating fashion, advertising and magazine art, receiving citations for her work. In 1960, while studying painting and printmaking, Esta Nesbitt illustrated The Town Across the Water with sugar-lift aquatints. Her subsequent book illustration work was marked by painstaking experimentation to produce prints that met her exacting standards for each title. Ms. Nesbitt was known for developing special techniques to create prints that expressed her perception of the text.
