Biographical History
The Lux Radio Theatre, later known as Lux Presents Hollywood, began broadcasting in New York in October 1934, using adaptations of movies and Broadway plays. During the program's prime years it was heard regularly by 30 million listeners.
The program first aired on Sunday afternoons on NBC but shortly moved to Monday evenings on CBS. Lever Brothers moved the show to Hollywood in 1936 and hired Cecil B. DeMille as host. DeMille was followed by William Keighley and Irving Cummings. The series went off the air in June 1955.
