Biographical History
William Emsley Jackson left Illinois with his parents and came West in 1873, settling first in the Grand Ronde valley of eastern Oregon. He returned to Plymouth, IL in 1876 to continue his education, and after teaching in Illinois, returned to accept a teaching position at Dayton, Washington Territory in 1880. Jackson was offered a position in the commercial department at Spokane College, and in August 1890 he and his wife moved to Spokane. In 1896 he accepted a school position with the Spokane Public School system and remained, first as a teacher and later as a principal, until his retirement in 1928.
