Lawyer, author, and librarian.
John William Wallace is best remembered as the final reporter of United States Supreme Court reports to privately publish the Court's decisions (1863-1875). He was born in Philadelphia, graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1833, was admitted to the bar in 1836, but chose a career as law librarian over one of practicing lawyer. He also served as president of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
