Biographical History

Photographer; cat breeder.

Born Marion (Maimie) Barnes, Atlanta, GA (date unknown). She was a photographer, poet, breeder and seller of Siamese cats, restaurateur and sales lady. She studied music in Germany, circa 1923. Married Guido Meisel, a German chemist, who was tried and convicted of commercial espionage in 1928. She moved to Poughkeepsie, NY, circa late 1920s-early 1930s, and owned a restaurant there; then lived in Weston, Vermont; and had a photographic studio in New York City, circa World War II. Meisel often photographed soldiers about to go overseas, free of charge. She lived in Londonderry, VT., circa late 1940s; then returned to NYC where she died in her early 90s.
