Biographical History
The Cooperative League of America was established in New York City in 1916 by James Peter Warbasse who served as president until 1941. The organization, now called the Cooperative League of the U.S.A. and based in Washington, D.C., is a federation of local, state, regional, and national cooperative business organizations. The League sponsors training conferences, conducts research, and distributes information about cooperatives.
Federation of national and regional consumer, service, and supply cooperatives; organized as the Consumers' Co-operative Publishing Association ca. 1914; Apr. 1914 the name was changed to Consumers' Co-operative Union; in 1916 it merged into the Co-operative League of America, retaining that name until 1922 when it became the Cooperative League of the U.S.A.; 1985 name changed to National Cooperative Business Association.
