Biographical History
Blanton Winship (b. Nov. 23, 1869, Macon, Ga.-d. Oct. 9, 1947), Major General and Judge Advocate General in the U.S. Army, received his law degree in 1893. He served with the 1st Georgia Infantry in the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection before receiving a commission in the artillery in 1901. From 1917 to 1923, he served with the 42nd, 1st, and 28th Divisions in the American Expeditionary Forces. He also served as military aide to the President and legal adviser to the governor general of the Philippines. He was Judge Advocate General, U.S. Army, until his retirement in 1933, and was recalled to active duty from 1942 to 1944.
