Biographical History

John Britton, English antiquarian and topographer. Often with his friend Edward Wedlake Brayley, he produced many works on British topography and antiquities, including: The Beauties of England and Wales (1800) ; Architectural Antiquities of Great Britain (1807-1814) ; and the Dictionary of the Architecture and Archaeology of the Middle Ages (1831-8).

John Britton was an antiquary, topographer, and editor. Britton was born on July 7, 1771. He published with E. W. Brayley, Beauties of England and Wales, 1801-16. He also published Architectural Antiquities of England, 1805-26; and Cathedral Antiquities of England, 1814-32. He died on January 1, 1857.
