Biographical History

Central Christian Church began in 1816, when Barton W. Stone, founder of the Disciples of Christ denomination, established a congregation in Lexington.

It was formally created as the Hill Street (Christian) Church in 1832. The church later moved to Main Street and changed its name to correspond to that address. The congregation moved to Short Street in 1894 and adopted the present name.
