Biographical History
Curtis Emerson LeMay (1906-1990) was a U.S. Air Force general who directed the bombing of Japan in World War II, and helped lead the bombing in Germany. He built the Strategic Air Command (SAC) during the Cold War, and served as Air Force Chief of Staff from 1961 to 1965. He retired from the Air Force in 1965, and briefly returned to public life in 1968 when he was the vice presidential candidate on the American Independent party ticket with George C. Wallace.
