Buswell, George W., b. ca. 1842.

George W. Buswell (b. ca 1842), a native of Stockton, Winona Co., Minn., enlisted in Co. B. of the 7th Regiment of Minnesota Infantry in August of 1862. The regiment assiged to Sibley's expedition against Sioux Indians in the fall of 1862. Then the regiment was posted on frontier duty, and in June of 1863 took part in Sibley's expedition to Dakota Territory. In late September, Buswell went on furlough, returning to the regiment, then stationed in Winona, on Oct. 6. On October 7, the regiment, attached to the Dept. of Missouri, left for St. Louis, Missouri. On Feb. 11, 1864, Buswell, having passed required examinations, was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on staff of General William Anderson Pile. On May 7, 1864 he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant of Co. K of the 68th Regiment of Colored Infantry that had just been reorganized from the 4th Missouri Colored Infantry. With the 68th, he served at the defenses of Memphis, Tenn., took part in Smith's Expedition to Tupelo, Miss. in July of 1864, and then fought in Louisiana, Alabama, and Texas. He was mustered out in February 1866
