Medical societies in Nodaway County, Mo.

The first society called Nodaway County Medical Society was organized November 23, 1872 in Maryville, Mo. as a chapter of the American Medical Association. Its purpose as stated in its first constitution (1872) was the advancement of knowledge upon all subjects connected with the healing art, the organization of the profession in connection with the American Medical Association, the elevation of the character and the protection of the rights and interest of those engaged in the practice of medicine; & the study of the means calculated to render the medical profession most \useful to the public & subservient to the interest of humanity. Presidents of the society were Dr. D.C. Myers (1872-1876), J. Howendobler (1877-1879). Source: Vol 1 of the Nodaway County Medical Society Papers, Washington University School of Medicine.

The New Medical Society of Nodaway County, Mo. was organized March 1st, 1883. Its object was the advancement of medicine and its collateral sciences, the discussion of all subjects bearing thereon, and the improvement of the medical profession within its bounds (Source: from 1883 published constitution in first volume and p. 3 of the second volume, Nodaway County Medical Society Papers, Washington University School of Medicine.).

On June 15, 1886, a new society was organized with the old name, Nodaway County Medical Society in Maryville, Mo. It adopted the constitution of the previous society. Presidents of the society were M.M. Rhodes or Rhoades (1886-1887), M.M. Wallis (1888-1889), G.W. Wilson (1890-1891?), M.M. Rhodes or Rhoades (1892-1887).
