Johnson, Patricia Altenbernd

Lillian Patricia Allen Johnson is the daughter of Matthew and Lucinda Allen. While living in Detroit, she attended Balch Elementary, Garfield Junior High, and Northern High Schools. She later obtained a H.S. degree in Social Administration from Wilberforce University, a social work master's degree from Wayne State University, and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University. Dr. Johnson has been a social worker, college professor and college development director. She was the first woman appointed State Director of Public Welfare in Georgia. She has served on the Executive Committee of the National Council of State Public Welfare Administrators, the Board of Directors of the National Conference on Social Welfare, and was Chairperson of the Advisory Council of Executives of the Child Welfare League of America. In 1982 and 1983, Dr. Johnson was invited to give testimony before the Subcommittee on Oversight and the Subcommittee of Public Assistance and Unemployment Compensation of the U.S.. Legislative Committee on Ways and Means. In December of 1983, she was invited, under the auspices of the German government, to be part of a four member study group to visit Germany and review the social economic policies of the Federal Republic of Germany. Dr. Patricia Johnson has been a consultant for Charmin Industry, a subsidiary of Proctor and Gamble. In March of 1985, she testified before the House of Representatives on the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1985. Dr. Johnson is also founder and president of Octo-vest, a cooperative investment effort with a group of Albany, Georgia businesswomen. She has served on the National Council of State Welfare Directors and was elected nationally to serve two terms on the Board of Directors of the American Public Welfare Association.
