Biographical History
Norman Demuth was an English composer, musician, educator, and author. He played the organ, composed, and conducted in the provinces before joining the Royal Academy of Music, where he had a long tenure as composition instructor. Largely self-taught as a composer, his most significant influences were French, and he composed dramatic, vocal, orchestral, chamber, and solo pieces. He also wrote musical biographies and criticism.
