Chief Justice of the U.S. district court for the District of Columbia, 1805-1855.
Cranch attended Harvard College (1784-1787) and practiced law in Massachusetts. He was named to the D.C. Circuit Court by President Jefferson (1806) and became the official reporter for the United States Supreme Court (1802-1815).
