Biographical History

Gerald Austin Doyle Jr. was born to Gerald Austin and Adele (Seims) Doyle on September 20, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio. After serving in the Army during World War II, Doyle earned his B.A. in Architecture from Western Reserve University (1948) and his M.A. in Architecture from Harvard University (1951). Doyle also served in the Navy, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He married Patricia de Laval and the couple had three children.

From 1951 to 1962, the Doyles lived in the Panama Canal Zone, where Gerald Doyle worked as an architect. The family settled in Phoenix in 1962, where Doyle served as the chief architect of Gerald A. Doyle and Associates until 2006. He established a reputation for his exacting standards for documentation and authenticity and earned a number of awards, including the American Institute of Architects Certificate of Fellowship Fellows for his notable contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture (1986) and the Governor's Award for Historic Preservation (1989).
