Capt. William Comstock (1787-1873), the seventh child of Benjamin and Mary (Winsor) Comstock, commanded the popular steamer _Fulton_ and was president of the Bank of Commerce in Providence. Comstock was apparently planning to return to Providence in 1859 due to poor health but it is believed that he drowned in the Indian Ocean during the voyage.
