Biographical History

Elizabeth Perkins Stanley was born in 1836, the daughter of John Stanley (1789-1844) and Elizabeth Hunt (1797-1893) of Salem, Massachusetts. Around 1861, she married Andrew Nichols (1837-1921), the son of Dr. Andrew Nichols (1797-1854) and Mary Holyoke Ward (1800-1879) of Danvers, Massachusetts. After attending public schools in Danvers, Andrew Nichols moved to Salem, Massachusetts, where he worked for the insolvency court and probate court. In the late 1850s, he purchased a farm in Danvers, Massachusetts, where he grew corn and potatoes; he later worked as a civil engineer. Elizabeth Stanley and Andrew Nichols had eight children: Andrew, Elizabeth Hunt, John Holyoke, Joshua Ward, Mary Eliot, William Stanley, Nellie Chapman, and Margaret Appleton. Elizabeth Stanley Nichols died in 1939.
