Biographical History
Florence Brugger was born on March 27, 1901 in Columbus, Nebraska, and graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1922. She received a certificate in psychiatric social work from the New York School of Social Work in 1934, and her M.A. in educational sociology from New York University in 1935. She worked at various positions throughout the United States and Hawaii until she began working for the Red Cross in 1942. She became the supervisor for all Middle East hospitals. In 1947 she transferred to Japan as supervisor of the Red Cross Program. In 1951 Brugger became the chief social worker for the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln. She retired in 1966. Florence Brugger died on October 22, 1988 in Columbus, Nebraska.
