Biographical History

Edwin George Morgan was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1920 . He attended the University of Glasgow but his studies were cut short by the Second World War during which time he served in the Middle East with the Royal Army and Medical Corps. First published in 1952, he is a writer who has attempted many forms, and is a winner of the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry. He began teaching as a lecturer in English Literature at the University of Glasgow in 1947 becoming Titular Professor in 1975. By the year 2000 he had retired but continued to be an Emeritus Professor in the department.
