Chase is an archeologist.
Fort Mitchell, the first semi-permanent U. S. garrison in the Chattahoochee Valley, was built in 1811 in what is now Russell County. It served as a U. S. base during the Creek Indian Wars and was used as a gathering place for the Indian removal to Oklahoma in 1836-1837 and was later abandoned.
From July to Dec., 1971, archaeologist David Chase led an archaeological exploration of the Fort Mitchell site. The excavation was sponsored by the Russell County Historical Society.
