Biographical History

Alan Heslop, born in England in 1938, attended Oxford University and earned his doctorate at the University of Texas in 1967. In 1968, after serving as a congressional fellow on the staffs of Senator Scott Lucas and Congressman Richard Scheiker, he began his service as a faculty memberof Claremont Men's College, and in 1972, he was named Don and Edessa Rose Professor of Politics. He was the founding Director of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government, established in 1973. He served as Executive Director of the California Republican Party State Central Committee in the early seventies, and over the years, as an adviser to the party leadership in the legislature and governor's office on redistricting.
