Lascelles Abercrombie was an English author and educator, known mostly for his dramatic poetry and literary theories. Born into an aristocratic family, he left Owens College without graduating because his family suffered financial losses in the Boer War. He worked as a journalist before meeting his future wife, Catherine Gwatkin, who boosted his career by introducing him to influential literary figures. Generally grouped with Georgian writers, Abercrombie wrote poetry, plays, and criticism, all distinguished by his interest in style and metaphysics and often employing numerous stylistic devices.
