The son of Fuller E. Callaway and Ida Jane Cason, he and his brother, Fuller E., Jr., continued the business and civic interests of their father, a textile manufacturer in the LaGrange, Georgia, area. Cason Callaway was a graduate of the University of Virginia (1912) and the Eastman School of Business (1913) and served as an officer in the United States Navy (1917-1919). Upon the death of his father in 1928, he assumed control of the family businesses, consolidated them, and created the Callaway Mills corporation. Callaway married Virginia Hollis Hand in 1920; in 1938 he resigned from his duties with the mills and he and his family moved to Blue Springs Farm and began the development of the Ida Cason Callaway Gardens. Callaway served as president and director of several textile organizations during his life.
