University of North Florida Press.

The University of North Florida Press was founded in October 1973. It was established by the Florida Board of Regents as part of a systemwide publishing consortium (University Presses of Florida) to publish books, monographs, journals and other types of scholarly or creative works. Each participating institution organized an editorial committee with the mandate to make local publishing decisions. The design, editing, manufacturing, and marketing tasks were handled by a central publishing unit in Gainesville, Florida.

The UNF Press Editorial Board was chaired by Dr. Richard Bizot throughout its existence. Initial Board members also included Iris G. Brown, Robert S. Cline, Carol L. DeMort, Jack T. Humphries (ex officio), Henry A. Newman, Jr., Stephen L. Shapiro, and William C. Stainback. The Board served in a strictly advisory capacity until 1983 when it published its first book, The Architecture of Henry John Klutho: the Prairie School in Jacksonville, by Robert C. Broward. From 1984 to 1991, the UNF Press published seven other books and had accepted for publication an additional four books. These last four were subsequently published with the University Press of Florida (UPF) imprint. The majority of the UNF Press imprints were connected with Jacksonville or the Northeast Florida region, with an emphasis on history and architectural preservation.

In August 1991, the consortium was reconfigured by the Board of Regents and consolidated into one central authority. The UNF Press, along with the other state university presses, was absorbed into the University Press of Florida (UPF), the current official unitary publisher of the State University System. Each university continues to have a representative on the UPF Editorial Board.
