Physician of Berkeley District in lowcountry South Carolina; in 1863, married Rowena Elizabeth Ravenel (1837-1924), daughter of botanist and physician Henry William Ravenel; Dwight was an 1859 graduate of the Medical College of the State of South Carolina, where he completed his MD thesis on the topic of hypnosis: "Neuro-Hypnotism, or Artificial Nervous Sleep."
