Biographical History

According to Glory Colorado!, William E. Davis' history of the University of Colorado (1965; p. 53), student activities in about the 1890s "centered around the literary and debating societies and social clubs." He adds (p. 131-132) that the University Debating Club, formed in 1892, was one of the prominent organizations on campus. It met weekly in the Junior Law room of the Hale building and gave its members experience in debate and extemporaneous speaking.

Davis (Glory Colorado!, p. 132), writes that the Oratorical Association was closely aligned with the Debating Club. Intercollegiate rivalries developed with Denver University and other institutions as members competed throughout the state. Fellow students received championship orators with acclaim.
