Biographical History

Founded by members of the University of Texas at Austin's Department of Government in 1919, the Southwestern Political Science Association encompassed government, economics, and sociology before becoming the Southwestern Political and Social Science Association in 1923 and finally the Southwestern Social Science Association in 1931. Since that time, the organization has promoted interdisciplinary engagement between professionals and students in the social sciences, including economics, history, international studies, political science, social work, sociology, and women’s and gender studies. Since it’s founding, the association has hosted annual meetings to discuss recent scholarship and published research in the Social Science Quarterly .
