Biographical History

Rev. William Johnson was called in 1964 by the Board of American Missions of the LCA to be mission developer in the Oak Grove area. The Board purchased a parsonage at 4638 SE Robin Road, and it was there that many of the early activities of the congregation took place. On November 29, 1964 the first worship service was held at Oak Hills Presbyterian Church. Sunday School met in the parsonage with an initial enrollment of 35. Organization took place on November 28, 1965 with 68 charter members. Ground was broken on Sunday, January 8, 1967, and the church was dedicated on June 25 of that year. The building was finished by the volunteer labor of its membership. Cost of the land and building totaled $94,143.00. In 1985 the congregation celebrated its 20th anniversary. Membership now numbers nearly 400 baptized. Expansion of the facilities is underway.
