Biographical History
Born at Burkley, Iowa. Family moved to Minneapolis, later to Barnesville, Minn. and Hickson, N.D. Married Stella Hatlestad 1913. They farmed near Hickson, N.D., later moved to Minot where he worked in railroad machine shops. In 1917, they returned to Fargo, he worked for Northern States Power, returned to railroad work in 1922. Worked on various WPA projects, also served on Cass County Welfare Board. Active in labor unions since World War I, he served as head of Fargo-Moorhead Trades and Labor Assembly, served on North Dakota Labor Disputes Board. Elected president of North Dakota State Federation of Labor in 1937 and held it till 1963. Died in Fargo, N.D.
