Biographical History

Everett Bodine Latham, geologist and petroleum engineer, was born in Michigan in 1874. After receiving his master's degree in geology from Columbia University in 1910, Latham moved to California to accept a position with the Kern Trading & Oil Company. In 1912 he began working as the geologist for the Kern County Oil Protective Association and consulting for other California oil companies. In 1916 Latham began working for the Pinal Dome Oil Company; in January of that year, he was asked by the Secretary of the Navy, Josephus Daniels, to travel to Washington D.C. to assist the Navy in congressional hearings regarding the leasing of naval oil reserves in California.
