The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America continues its participation in the Joint Christian Ministry in West Africa (JCMWA) that began with one of its predecessor churches, The American Lutheran Church, in 1979. Its members work to start ministry among Fulbe people of West Africa where there is no established church, coordinate the Fulfulde-speaking ministry between participating churches, and continue to strengthen ministry among the Fulfulde-speaking persons in participating churches. As of 2007, JCMWA had 30 members.
