Daniel Baker was born in New Hampshire in 1775 and enlisted as an ensign in the 16th Inf., Jan. 8, 1799; was 2nd lieutenant, Mar. 3, 1799; honorably discharged, June 5, 1800; 2nd lieutenant, 3rd infantry, Feb. 16, 1801; transferred to 1st infantry, Apr. 1, 1802; Lieutenant, Aug. 11, 1806; Captain, May 12, 1812; Major, 45th infantry, Apr. 15, 1814; retained, May 17, 1812 as Captain , 8th infantry with Brevet Major from Apr. 1, 1814; transferred to 3rd infantry, Dec. 2, 1815; major, 7th infantry, Jun. 1, 1819; transferred to 3rd infantry; Jun 1, 1821; Lieutenant colonel, 6th infantry, May 1, 1829; Brevet Major, Aug. 9, 1812.
