Biographical History
The first meeting of the Humanities Club took place in December of 1948. Dr. Herman E. Spivey called an informal gathering together of the University faculty to discuss the advisability and the need for a Humanities Club. The meeting was held in the staff room of the Margaret I. King Library. After introductory remarks by Dr. Spivey, a nominating committee consisting of Professors W. S. Ward, Cliff Amyx, D. V. Hegeman, and T. C. Walker was formed and charged with providing names for Presiding officer, Program Chairman, and Secretary. The club gathered to discuss topics relevant to the field of humanities.
